The Effects of Ecological Factors of the Bereaved Elderly on Suicide Ideation - Focusing on the Moderating Effects of Gender Differences -

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to verify the influence of ecological factors of the bereaved elderly on suicide ideation and to compare the processes of suicide ideation by gender differences. Data were drawn from a self-administered questionnaire study in which 320 elderly men and women, aged over 65 to participate. Data on 307 elderly were statistically analyzed with PASW SPSS 18.0. First, suicide ideation had affected by bereavement duration, depression, peer and neighbor support. Second, gender differences exist in the relationship between ecological factors and suicide ideation. Based on ecological system, practical and policy implications of this study were as follows. These efforts allow us to provide professional prevention programs for bereaved elderly.
